Falcons Blank Florida Atlantic, 2-0
USAFA, Colo. -
Junior Duncan McNabb and sophomore Andy Nigro each scored the first goal of his career and junior Paul Elsbernd posted the second shutout of his career Sunday as the Air Force men's soccer team defeated Florida Atlantic, 2-0, at Cadet Soccer Stadium. With the victory, the Falcons improve to 2-2 this season, while the Owls fall to 1-4. Air Force dominated the game from the start, posting 10 shots in the first half, compared to just one for FAU. Nigro opened the scoring in the 32nd minute by putting in a rebound shot after FAU goalie Anders Granstad stopped a bullet from Falcon Scott Muir but could not corral the ball. Senior Colin Eames also recorded an assist on the play by sending a crossing pass into the box for Muir. Nigro's tally snapped a scoreless streak of nearly 212 minutes for Air Force. McNabb notched his first collegiate goal in the 56th minute after sophomore Jason Belvill sent a high, crossing pass into the box that Muir headed right to McNabb, who was standing directly in front of the net. He slipped it past Granstad, who finished the game with 11 saves. Elsbernd made three saves for the Falcons in posting his first victory of the season. His defense played extremely well in front of him, allowing FAU just seven total shots for the game. Air Force hosts UC-Davis next Friday night at 7 p.m. at Cadet Soccer Stadium.
