Missouri State Downs Air Force, 3-1, at Diadora Tournament

Danny May scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 47th minute, to lead the Missouri State men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Air Force Friday on day one of the Quality Inn & Suites/Diadora Tournament. With the victory, MSU improved to 3-1-1, while the Falcons lost their third straight game and are 0-3-1.

The Bears got on the board first less than five minutes into the contest as Justin Alford took a pass from Ryan Anderson and beat Falcon goalie Brian Guyette to the far post.

Air Force tied the game in the 13th minute when Brendan Greenaway converted the team's first penalty kick of the season. Greenaway, a senior co-captain, became the first Falcon other than freshman Josh Rhynard to score a goal this season.

May struck for his first goal just 1:20 into the second half by beating Guyette to the upper left corner from seven yards. He then notched an unassisted goal in the 86th minute to seal the victory.

The Bears controlled the action throughout the entire game, outshooting the Falcons 25-6 in total shots and 12-3 in shots on goal. May and Yanik Joseph each attempted a game-hgih five shots. Guyette came up with a season-high nine saves, while MSU keeper Lance Parker made one save and the Bear defense made another.

Air Force battles Evansville at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10. The Falcons will be without the services of sophomore Joe Lapinsky, who was served with his second yellow card and sent off in the 73rd minute Friday.
