Air Force Men's Soccer Wins Exhibition Game

USAFA, Colo. (August 18) -- The Air Force Falcons men's soccer team opened its 2000 season with an exhibition victory over visiting UC-Colorado Springs. It took an extra period for the Falcons to claim the win, as the team captured a 2-1 overtime decision.

Newcomer Thomas Clark scored the game-winning goal 10 minutes into overtime. Clark collected a pass from Ryan Sagastume in front of the Lion's goal and knocked it past UCCS goalkeeper Mike Archuleta. It was Clark's first ever varsity goal.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead midway through the second half when two UCCS defenders were crossed up in front of their own goal trying to clear the ball. The ball skipped past Archuleta for the score.

The Mountain Lions evened the score with just over five minutes remaining in the game. James Bisgard collected a pass deep in Falcon territory and begin dribbling for a sure breakaway goal. USAFA's Allan Smith tripped him from behind, resulting in a yellow card for Smith and a penalty kick for the Lions. Manuel Santana, who replaced an injured Santana, converted the penalty kick for the Mountain Lions lone goal.

The Falcons outshot UCCS 21-9 but were unable to convert on numerous scoring opportunities. Archuleta collected eight saves in the loss.
