Men's Soccer Announces Class of 2018

    Air Force men's soccer coach Doug Hill has announced the 12 players that make up another strong recruiting class for the Falcons. The class includes seven Development Academy players with three from the USAFA Prep School. Members of the Class of 2018 come from eight different states.

    Year: Freshman
    Height: 5-10

    Position: Midfielder
    Hometown: Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
    High School: Palos Verdes Peninsula HS

    Before Air Force  
    ODP: Played on regional team for two years … member of ’95 regional team and captain of ’96 regional team … selected for the ODP NCAA Inter-Regional All-Star team in 2013.

    Club: Played club soccer since the age of eight … most recently played for the Palos Verdes Exiles, coached by former AFA goalkeeper and assistant coach Matt Mennell.

    High School: Four-year letterwinner in soccer … also lettered in track and field … named first-team all-league as a senior in soccer … second-team all-league pick as a junior … league champion in the 800m as a sophomore ... member of National and Spanish Honor Society … AP scholar with distinction for two years … high school soccer coach was Steven Meriwether.

    Coach Hill’s Comments
    Oscar was a Region I team captain for the Exiles club whose leadership will carry over to the entire freshman class. We have had our eyes on him since the regional camp. He will be another Southern California product that we anticipate providing depth to our program.

    ODP: Played on the Illinois State and Region II team for two years … member of 2009 national pool.

    U.S. Soccer Academy: Member of Sockers FC Academy team from 2011-14 ... team advanced to 2013 Academy playoffs in Dallas, Texas.

    Club: Played for the Sockers club team from 2007-14 … helped team to NPL national championship in 2012.

    High School: Two-year letterwinner in soccer … honorable mention all-conference pick as a freshman … high school soccer coach was Jason Franco.

    Coach Hill’s Comments
    Tristan comes to us from the Sockers Development Academy team in Chicago. He has experience playing all over field, from center and outside back to center forward. He has also been in youth national team programs for several years. We have high hopes that he will be an impact player from the very beginning.

    Year: Freshman
    Height: 6-3
    Weight: 195
    Position: Midfielder
    Hometown: Brookfield, WI
    High School: Marquette University HS

    Club: Played for the Bavarians Soccer Club … helped team to U-18 state championship and U-17 state finals … also played for Elm Grove Soccer Club.

    High School: Four-year letterwinner in soccer … first-team all-state selection as a senior … two-time first-team all-conference performer … named a WIAA scholar athlete … team was ranked sixth in the country as a sophomore and ninth as a junior … earned high honors every semester … high school soccer coach was Steve Lawrence.

    Coach Hill’s Comments
    Gus is a very good central defender from Bavarians Soccer Club in Milwaukee. At 6’4” and a very strong build, we expect him to be a real presence in the heart of our defense.

    ODP: Member of regional team for four years … helped team to national final in 2013 ... regional champions in 2011 and ’12.

    Club: Played for the Lehigh Valley ‘95 team … helped team win five state cup titles and a third-place finish at the U-16 national tournament … team also captured the Region 1 Premier League twice.

    High School: Four-year letterwinner in soccer … also lettered three year in track and field … all-state selection as a senior … two-time all-county selection … member of the Silver Honors program … high school soccer coach was Chris Farrell.

    Coach Hill’s Comments
    Sam comes from one of the perennial top club teams on the East Coast, Lehigh Valley. His good soccer sense and work rate with have him competing for a spot immediately. We expect him to be a leader on and off the field.

    Club: Played for the Pride Soccer Club.

    High School: Two-year letterwinner in soccer … helped team to the state championship as a freshman … first-team all-league and team’s offensive MVP as a sophomore … member of National Honor Society … high school soccer coach was Espen Hosien.

    Coach Hill’s Comments
    Gannon is a local player that we know very well. He comes to us from the Real Colorado Development Academy team where he has been a very productive center forward. Not only does he have a nose for the goal, he also has a tremendous work ethic. For the way that we play, Gannon is a perfect addition. We think he will play significant minutes right away.

    U.S. Soccer Academy: Member of Colorado Rush team in 2011-12 … team was ranked fifth in the nation for U-15/16.

    Club: Played for Rush Pikes Peak … helped team to 2013 Colorado State Cup championship … named MVP of the championship game.

    High School: Four-year letterwinner in soccer … also lettered three years in football and two in basketball … three-time first-team all-conference selection for soccer … won 6th man award for basketball … member of National Honor Society and student government … high school soccer coach was Jeremy Tafoya.

    Coach Hill’s Comments
    Nestor is another Colorado Springs player in this recruiting class. He joins us from the USAFA Prep School. Prior to being a preppy, Nestor was a member of the Colorado Rush Development Academy program. He plays in the middle of midfield and has a wonderful left foot.

    A teammate of Colin McDermott’s from both the Prep School as well as the Pateadores, Jaric is another player that we have seen for a few years and think very highly of. He is a true winger who can be very dangerous and creative on the flanks. We are excited to have him finally with us.

    Coach Hill’s Comments
    Colin comes to us from our Prep School where he was a major standout. We recruited him last year from the Pateadores Development Academy team in Southern California where he was one of the top central defenders in the area. With a year of Academy experience under his belt we expect Colin to step right into our lineup and compete for a starting spot from day one.

    U.S. Soccer Academy: Played for the Andromeda USSF team from 2011-14 … named MVP of U-18 team by coaches and teammates … started all but four games in the three seasons.

    Club: Played for Texans Soccer Club (2009-10) and Solar Soccer Club (2006-09) … helped team to Dallas Cup semifinals in 2010.

    High School: Lettered one year in soccer … played as a freshman before switching to USSDA … high school coach was Jason Bates.

    Trey was the captain of his Andromeda Development Academy team in Dallas, TX. He is a very versatile player who can play anywhere across the back as well as a central midfield position. We expect Trey to be a very good player for us and to contribute right away.

    High School: Four-year letterwinner in soccer … also lettered three years in basketball ... named 4A State Player of the Year as a senior … MVP of Pikes Peak Athletic Conference … named Colorado Springs-area Player of the Year by The Gazette … helped team to state championship as a freshman and state runner-up as a senior … NSCAA all-region selection … two-time team MVP and first-team all-conference selection … team MVP on basketball team as a junior … helped BB team to Sweet 16 at state playoffs … member of National Honor Society and a Merit Scholar … high school soccer coach was Espen Hosien.

    Being a local player, we know exactly what we are getting with Johnny. He is another big presence on the field and can play in a number of different spots. He has most recently spent time at center forward and that is where we expect him to play for us. Overlooked by most everyone, we feel very fortunate to have him here at the Academy.

    High School: Three-year letterwinner in soccer … league Player of the Year and all-state second-team as a senior … helped team to state semifinals as a sophomore … three-time scholar-athlete … high school soccer coach was Jeff Brooks.

    Isaac is another Portland Timbers player that we are excited to have join our program. He was a standout player at regional camp and his strength and vision will make him a tremendous asset.

    John is a big, strong goalkeeper from Pacesetter, a very good club in Toledo, Ohio. He has tons of experience with the state and regional teams and with his addition to the team we expect a spirited competition in the goal.
