Jan. 22, 2013

Air Force senior Kevin Durr was drafted by the Seattle Sounders FC today in the 2013 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft. Durr was the 16th selection of the first round.

The Supplemental Draft consists of four rounds, which are called Rounds 1 through 4, but in many ways it is rounds 3 through 6 of the MLS SuperDraft, held last week in Indianapolis, Ind. The Supplemental Draft allows for only players who have finished their college eligibility and been nominated by an MLS club, as well as youth internationals made available by MLS.

Durr, a two-time all-West Region selection, led the Falcons to their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1997 by pacing the team in scoring with 15 points. He posted team-highs of five goals and five assists and finished third in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in total shots with 59.. Durr was also named first-team all-conference and the Most Valuable Player of the MPSF tournament this season.

The Falcons finished the 2012 season with a 10-9-4 record and captured their first conference championship by defeating ninth-ranked New Mexico in a shootout (5-3) in the MPSF title game to earn a trip to the 2012 NCAA Tournament. Air Force dropped a 1-0 decision to the University of Washington in the first round.

The last Air Force player drafted by the MLS was Daniel Wasson in the fourth round of the supplemental draft in 2006. Wasson transferred to the University of Tulsa following his sophomore year at the Academy. The last Academy graduate to be selected was Rich Cullen, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2000 draft by the Colorado Rapids.
