The Air Force men’s soccer team wrapped up its preseason on Thursday night with a 2-0 victory over 11th-ranked New Mexico in an exhibition game at the Academy. The game started at the Cadet Soccer Stadium but was halted six minutes in due to lightning and moved indoors to the Holaday Athletic Center.

Freshman Blake Elder and junior Alex Frazier each scored a second-half goal and sophomore Joey Speshock and freshman Jake Schenk each played a half in goal for the Falcons. Elder scored his goal after collecting a pass from Matt Payne and blasting a shot from 25 yards out into the net. Frazier then added an insurance goal off an assist by junior Zachary Modly.

“Our team defense was outstanding tonight,” said Air Force head coach Doug Hill. “That is going to have to be a trademark of this team. Both of our goalies played really well. It was nice to see Blake Elder get his first goal tonight. I have been very impressed with our team chemistry so far this fall.”

The Falcons open the 2013 regular season next Friday, August 30 at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., beginning at 4 p.m. (PT).
