Air Force Lacrosse Visits Monroe Elementary School
Dec. 1, 2011
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Air Force lacrosse team recently visited Monroe Elementary School in Colorado Springs as part of an Adopt-a-School program, sponsored by the Academy's athletic department. During the visit, the team members take time out to speak to students, teaching them about the game of lacrosse. "Adopt-a-School is a great opportunity for us to render meaningful service and put up a good name for the Academy," said team co-captain John Krzyminski. "We have done it ever since I have been at the Academy, and each year everyone ends the day talking about how much fun it was. In the past we have gone to schools and read books, but this year we just taught little bros how to lax." "It was great to see these kids who have never been exposed to lacrosse before grasp the game as well as they did," added senior Matt Sanders. "They were enthusiastic the whole time and excited to play. It reminded me of when I was younger and was introduced to lacrosse for the first time." "It's really the best of both worlds because we get to take part in what used to be our favorite part of school (recess) and the kids get to learn from Academy guys who they look up to," continued Krzyminski. "So often we get caught up in our daily routine at the Academy and Adopt-a-School was a great opportunity for us to step out of that routine and do something special and meaningful."
