Falcons Run Together in the Race for the Cure
Oct. 1, 2010
For the second-straight year, members of the Air Force lacrosse program created a volunteer charity team to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, held Sept. 12, at Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs.
The Komen Race for the Cure Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds from Komen Colorado Springs events remains in the El Paso, Teller and Pueblo counties to support breast cancer programs and activities.
This year's group of volunteers, led by senior Brian Wilson, was able to exceed its fundraising goal of $6,000, contributing nearly $6,500 toward the cause.
"The generosity of those on our team, as well as their friends and family, is unbelievable," said Wilson. "The money raised is going towards a great cause. Breast cancer is a disease that is so wide-spread, it has some effect on just about everyone. We're trying to do our part to recognize and help all those affected by the disease."
