Three Lacrosse Players Honored by Conference
May 11, 2004 Three Air Force lacrosse players were honored by the Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) as all-conference selections. Teammates Timothy Hade, Stephen Whittenberg and Justin Pavoni were all selected to the all-conference second team. Pavoni, a sophomore from Park City, Utah, was selected as second-team goalkeeper. In his first season minding the net, Pavoni made an immediate impact. He finished fourth in the nation in save percentage (.637). He tallied 156 saves and allowed 89 goals in 11 games. He is 15th in the country in goals against average (8.09). Whittenberg, a freshman from Springfield, Va., earned his first all-conference award. He was selected as a second-team defenseman. He was the team's premier defender and was consistent in shutting down the opposing team's leading scorer. Hade, a junior from Franklin Lake, N.J., was selected for his efforts as a longstick middie. In addition to league honors, Hade was voted team co-captain for the 2005 season. "I am really proud of these players," head coach Fred Acee said. "They worked hard all season and are deserving of this honor."
At the team's recent awards banquet, all three players received recognition for their on-field contributions. Hade, with 44 ground balls, was the recipient of the team's Hoover Award. Whittenberg and Pavoni were co-recipients of the team's most valuable defensive player. Whittenberg also shared the rookie of the year award with two of his teammates.
