CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Air Force junior Erik Smith and freshman Alex Warden have been named the ECAC Lacrosse League Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as released by the league today. It marks the third career weekly award for Smith and the first for Warden, as six different Falcons have earned weekly awards from the league this season.
Smith, a native of Golden, Colo., was the leading goal scorer for the Falcons in their 16-12 season-ending win over Hobart on Saturday, registering a career-best four goals against the Statesmen. Smith scored three of his goals in the third period, including what proved to be the gamewinner. It marked the first hat trick of the season for Smith, and second of his career. Smith also picked up four ground balls and won 4-of-8 face-offs as the Falcons' secondary face-off man.
Meanwhile, Warden was a defensive leader for Air Force on Saturday against Hobart, as the Glen Mills, Pa., product recorded five ground balls and a caused turnover. His five ground balls were tied for the team lead and set a new career high.
Also earning ECAC weekly honors were Loyola's Joe Fletcher, who was named the defensive player of the week, and Denver's Chase Carraro, who earned specialist of the week honors.
