Nevitt Named GWLL Co-Player of the Week
April 22, 2009
USAFA, Colo. - Air Force senior captain Griffin Nevitt (Charlotte, N.C.) has been named the Great Western Lacrosse League Co-Player of the Week for games through April 19, as announced today by the conference. It is the second career weekly conference honor for Nevitt, who shares the award with Notre Dame's Scott Rodgers. It also marks the third conference honor for a Falcon this season. Nevitt scored seven points (five goals, two assists) over the weekend to lead Air Force to two wins in the team's only home games of the season. In Saturday's conference game against Ohio State, Nevitt tallied a pair of goals to help the Falcons to a 9-6 victory over the Buckeyes, giving Air Force its first win against OSU since 1997. The win also clinched the Falcons' berth in the Great Western Lacrosse League Tournament, which will be held May 1 and 3. Nevitt was even more impressive on the offensive end in Sunday's game versus Detroit, stepping up on Senior Day to register a season-high five points (3g, 2a) en route to a 13-6 victory over the Titans. The win extended Air Force's winning streak to three games, its longest unbeaten stretch since 2006, while also giving the Falcons more wins than in the past two seasons combined. Meanwhile, Rodgers, helped the Irish remain the lone undefeated team in Division I lacrosse with a pair of wins over Quinnipiac and St. John's. The senior goalkeeper, who leads the nation in both save percentage and goals against average, allowed just three goals, while tallying 15 saves over the weekend. Air Force will wrap up its regular season this Saturday, April 25, when it visits conference rival Denver in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
