CENTERVILLE, Mass. - A pair of Air Force players have earned ECAC Lacrosse League weekly honors, as released by the league today. Senior Tommy McKee was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while junior Kyle O'Brien was tabbed the Specialist of the Week.
McKee, a native of Holt, Mich., helped lead the Falcons' offense in a 16-8 upset of 11th-ranked Fairfield on Saturday, scoring a season-high six points with a team-high five goals and an assist. McKee, whose nation-leading goal scoring streak was extended to 31 straight games, notched his fifth hat trick of the season and 15th of his career.
Meanwhile, O'Brien, registered two caused turnovers and four ground balls on Saturday. The long-stick midfielder from Denver, Colo., was part of a smothering defensive unit that shut down the Stags' top offensive performers, holding Fairfield's top three scorers without a single point. Additionally, the Falcons held the Stags to just 20 shots, while pressuring Fairfield into committing 15 turnovers.
Other ECAC honorees this week included Ohio State's Scott Spencer, who was named the defensive player of the week, while Jake Withers (Ohio State) and David Fleming (Fairfield) shared rookie of the week honors.
Air Force, which is now receiving votes in both the USILA coaches poll and Warrior media poll, closes out its ECAC slate this Saturday, April 19, when it visits Ohio State in a 1:00 p.m. (ET). A win over the Buckeyes would clinch the Falcons' first-ever regular-season ECAC title.
