Air Force Visits Mercer for Non-Conference Contest

    The Air Force lacrosse team plays its final non-conference game of the season this weekend, April 6, when it heads to Macon, Ga., to take on Mercer. The contest is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. (ET) at the Moye Lacrosse Complex.

    ♦ Last Time Out...
    Air Force snapped its four-game losing streak, picking up a 10-6 road win over Michigan on Saturday. After the Wolverines scored the first goal of the contest, the Falcons went on a 9-0 run to take control of the game.

    Junior captain Mike Crampton notched his second-consecutive hat trick, his fifth of the season, to lead the Falcons' offense, while Tommy McKee, Erik Smith and Keith Dreyer added two goals each. Meanwhile, senior goalkeeper Austin Fox tallied a career-high-tying 15 saves.

    ♦ Scouting the Falcons...
    Air Force enters this weekend with a 5-5 overall record following its 10-6 victory over Michigan on Saturday.

    The Falcons' offense is led by junior captain Mike Crampton, who has registered a team-high 31 points (24g, 7a) on the season, while classmate Tommy McKee shares the team lead with 22 goals. Sophomore Keith Dreyer has added 23 points, including a team-high 14 assists, while junior captain Erik Smith has recorded 21 points (14g, 7a) and a team-leading 46 ground balls on the year.

    ♦ Scouting the Bears...
    Mercer enters this weekend's contest with a 3-6 overall record, following a 12-10 home loss to High Point last weekend. The Bears are led by Chris Baxa, who has registered a team-best 34 points (25g, 9a), while Zack Ward has added 24 points (21g, 3a). Justin Evans paces Mercer at the face-off X, winning over 58 percent of his draws, while goalkeeper Mike Nugent averages 12.3 saves per contest.

    ♦ On the Road Again...
    This weekend's contest is the fifth-straight game away from home for the Falcons, who have played just two of their first 10 games at the Academy. Air Force will play its final road contest next weekend, when it travels to Fairfield for an ECAC contest, while it will close out the regular season with a pair of home games, hosting Ohio State (April 20) and Hobart (April 27).

    ♦ ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week...
    Sophomore Kyle O'Brien was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Co-Defensive Player of the Week on April 1 for his performance in a pair of conference games versus Denver and Michigan. It was the second career weekly award for O'Brien, who earned Rookie of the Week honors last season, and his first this year.

    O'Brien recording a team-high 12 ground balls and three caused turnovers in two games for the Falcons. His caused turnover versus fourth-ranked Denver came at a crucial time, as it set up one last offensive opportunity for the Falcons, who were able to score the game-tying goal which forced overtime.

    In Air Force's win against Michigan on Saturday, O'Brien, who notched seven ground balls and two caused turnovers, scored his third point of the year, an assist to Bryan Price, which capped off a 9-0 run by the Falcons.

    ♦ Fox Stopping Shots...
    Senior goalkeeper Austin Fox registered one of his best performances of the year on Saturday versus Michigan, posting 15 saves against the Wolverines, matching a career-high.

    ♦ Price at the X...
    Junior captain Bryan Price has been a strength for the Falcons at the face-off X this season, winning 60.2 percents of his attempts. Last week, Price won 17-of-26 face-offs taken, including 9-of-11 in Air Force's victory over Michigan.

    ♦ Up Next...
    Air Force closes out its regular-season road slate next Saturday, April 13, when it visits Fairfield in an ECAC match-up.
