THIS WEEK: The Falcons are lined up for a pair of non-conference games on the road against Michigan and Detroit Mercy, Mar. 9 and 11, respectively. The Falcons will be meeting the Wolverines and Titans for the fourth and fifth time, respectively. Air Force remains unbeaten in both series.
LAST TIME AGAINST MICHIGAN: Then-senior captains Mike Crampton and Kyle Cassady combined for 13 points to lead the Air Force lacrosse team to a 15-12 victory over ECAC foe Michigan in the 2014 matchup.
Crampton tallied four goals and three assists to pace the Falcons' offense. With his performance, Crampton moved into a tie for 10th place on the Falcons' all-time goal scoring list, now with 101 career goals. He became the first Air Force player since 1994 to reach 100 goals for his career. Meanwhile, Cassady also had a standout game for the Falcons, scoring a career-high six points (3g, 3a) with his second hat trick of the season.
LAST TIME AGAINST DETROIT MERCY: Nick Hruby, Chris Walsch and Matthew Schwartz registered a hat trick apiece in the 13-8 non-conference win over Detroit Mercy, at Falcon Stadium. The three hat tricks marked Air Force’s first, and only, triple-hat trick performance the season.
UP NEXT: Air Force opens the Southern Conference slate with a home match against VMI, Mar. 17. The Falcons will host the Keydets at Cadet Lacrosse Stadium.
LAST WEEK: Air Force registered a season-high nine goals in the 15-9 loss to Boston U in non-conference lacrosse action at home. Sophomore attackman Schwartz registered his first hat trick of the season in third period. Schwartz led the team with six shots while Hruby had the second-most with five. Harper remains unbeaten at the face off X, going 16-27 (.593) on the day. Harper also led the team with four ground balls.
AIR FORCE AT A GLANCE: The Falcons are led by senior team captain Nick Hruby with 10 goals and two assists for 12 points. Hruby leads the team in shots and shots on goal with 12 and 19, respectively. Sophomore attackman Matthew Schwartz’s shots on goal shooting percentage is .900, with nine-of-ten shots taken coming on frame, five of which were goals.
At the face off X, Trent Harper holds a .602 faceoff win percentage (65-108). Harper leads the team with 28 ground balls this season. Sophomore LSM Jeremiah Hemme leads the squad with six caused turnovers. Hemme also notched a goal with the long-stick against Boston University.
HARPER WINS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Harper averaged 6.0 ground balls per game and won 60 percent of his faceoffs in February. Harper opened his season with 10 ground balls against No. 2/1 Duke, also scoring a goal and going 16-for-26 in faceoff opportunities. In a snowy contest against No. 4/4 Denver a week later, he grabbed two ground balls and caused a turnover and went 9-for-18 in faceoffs against three-time All-American and 2017 Tewaaraton Award finalist Trevor Baptiste, holding Baptiste in single-digit faceoff wins for the first time in his career. The junior from Birmingham, Alabama, then closed his month with six ground balls in back-to-back contests, doing so in an 8-7 win over Marist and then again, adding a caused turnover, against Cleveland State. Harper was 12-for-19 in faceoffs against Marist and 11-for-17 against Cleveland State.
