Air Force Visits VMI for Non-Conference Contest

    The Air Force lacrosse team has its first true road contest of the season this Sunday, March 2, when it heads to Lexington, Va., to take on VMI in a 12:00 p.m. (ET) contest.

    The Falcons split a pair of games at the Frontier Airlines Face-Off Classic in Denver last weekend, dropping a narrow 7-6 decision to Canisius on Saturday, while rolling to a 17-9 victory over Marist on Sunday. Senior captain Mike Crampton tallied a pair of goals to lead Air Force against the Golden Griffins, while Crampton and classmate Tommy McKee each netted five scores to pace the Falcons against the Red Foxes.

    Air Force enters this weekend with a 2-2 mark record after splitting its two contests last weekend. Senior Tommy McKee leads the Falcons' offense with 12 points on the season, including a team-high 10 goals, while classmates Mike Crampton and Erik Smith have added 11 points (9g, 2a) and eight points (7g, 1a), respectively. In addition, junior Keith Dreyer has dished out a team-leading six assists on the year.

    VMI currently holds an 0-3 mark on the season, and will host Detroit on Saturday before facing the Falcons on Sunday afternoon. Senior Mickey Hofmeister leads the Keydets' offense through the first three games of the season with nine points (6g, 3a), while junior Nick DeBlasio has added five points (3g, 2a).

    Senior Mike Crampton was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Offensive Player of the Week on Feb. 24, for his performance at the Frontier Airlines Face-Off Classic, held Feb. 22-23. Crampton was named to the all-tournament team after leading Air Force with nine points (7g, 2a) in two games. He was the leading scorer for the Falcons against Canisius with two goals, while finishing with seven points in the win over Marist, including a career-high five goals. With his performance, Crampton became the leading career goal scorer in the Falcons' modern era with 88 career goals.

    Three Air Force players were named to this year's Frontier Airlines Face-Off Classic all-tournament team--seniors Mike Crampton, Tommy McKee and Erik Smith. Crampton was the Falcons' leading scorer with nine points (7g, 2a) on the weekend, including a career-high five goals in the win over Marist on Sunday. McKee added seven points (6g, 1a), including a five-goal performance against the Red Foxes, while Smith scored two goals and an assist while anchoring the Falcons' midfield.

    With his performance this past weekend, senior captain Mike Crampton claimed the record for most career goals scored during the Falcons' modern era (since 1994). Crampton now has 88 goals for his career, surpassing 1998 graduate Chris MacAulay. Meanwhile, classmate Tommy McKee ranks fourth on the list with 75 career goals.

    So far this season, Air Force has had three different players record a hat trick. Senior Tommy McKee has a pair of hat tricks under his belt this year, finishing with three goals in the season opener versus Denver, while adding five tallies in the win over Marist. Classmate Erik Smith notched his first hat trick of the year against Furman on Feb. 15, finishing with four goals, while Mike Crampton netted his first hat trick of the year against Marist, scoring five goals.

    Crampton currently leads the Falcons in career hat tricks with 17, followed by McKee, who ranks second on the team with 12. Meanwhile, Smith's hat trick was the third of his career.

    Senior Tommy McKee has scored at least one goal in 25 straight games, dating back to the 2012 season. His goal scoring streak ranks as the second-longest in the nation, behind Colgate's Ryan Walsh. Meanwhile, his 28-game point scoring streak is currently the 12th-longest in the nation.
