U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force swept the Southern Conference lacrosse weekly awards as sophomore attack Chris Walsch was named the offensive player of the week and senior goalie Doug Gouchoe was named the defensive player of the week. The pair helped lead Air Force to a 7-6 win in four overtimes on the road at Marist.
Walsch, from Hampstead, Md., had a hand in on six of the seven goals. He scored a season high four goals and had two assists in the game. In the fourth overtime, he scored the game-winner with 2:12 remaining. He had 10 shots, scored a man-up goal and collected four ground balls in the game. Walsch leads the team with seven goals and 11 points in three games this season.
Gouchoe, from Concord, Mass., recorded a career high 19 saves in the victory. He posted a .760 saves percentage while allowing just six goals in nearly 78 minutes of action. He stopped 7-of-9 shots in the first quarter as the Falcons were outshot 13-5, but trailed just 2-1. In the four overtime periods, he made four saves to keep the game deadlocked at 6-6 before Walsch scored the game-winner.
Air Force (1-2 overall) travels up I-25 for the annual Faceoff Classic at the University of Denver, Feb. 27-28. The Falcons will face Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 27 and Sacred Heart on Sunday, Feb. 28. Both games will start at 11 a.m. MT each day.
