SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Air Force’s Nick Hruby has been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse offensive player of the week, for all competition from Feb. 13-19. The awards are selected by the league office.
Air Force’s Hruby had a career day Saturday, matching the SoCon single-game record with a career-high six goals in an 8-7 win over Marist. Among Hruby’s goals was the game-winner, which he scored with 3:19 left in the contest to cap the Falcon’s game-ending 4-0 run to overcome a three-goal third-quarter deficit. The senior attackman from Coppell, Texas, scored the first of his two first-period goals just 58 seconds into the contest and completed his first hat trick of the season in the second period. He scored twice in the third period before his decisive goal in the fourth. Hruby put nine of his 12 shots on goal and scooped three ground balls in the contest.
The stellar performance also garnered Hruby’s spot on USILA’s Division I Team of the Week and Air Force’s Cadet Athlete of the Week honor. The conference announcement marks Air Force's second SoCon Athlete of the Week, while Hruby sets the bar as the first-ever Air Force player on the USILA Team of the Week.
Air Force (1-2) will take on Cleveland State in Denver, Colorado, on Friday at 4 p.m. local time.
