GENEVA, N.Y. -
In its final road contest of the season, the Air Force lacrosse team fell to ECAC opponent Hobart, 17-6, Saturday evening at McCooey Field.
The Statesmen (3-10, 1-6 ECAC) took control from the opening face-off, scoring just three seconds into the contest. Hobart grabbed a 5-0 advantage before the Falcons’ first goal came with 4:32 remaining in the opening period, as senior Ridge Flick (Plano, Texas) capitalized on a failed clear by the Statesmen to register an unassisted score.
With a 6-1 advantage after one period, Hobart extended its lead to 10-1 midway through the second quarter with four straight goals, including three scores in less than a minute. Air Force responded as junior Zack Carroll (Freehold Township, N.J.) tallied the Falcons’ only score of the second period, finding the back of the net with 4:04 remaining in the half, getting the assist from classmate Tristan Newkirk (Albany, N.Y.). However, the Statesmen closed out the period with a pair of man-up goals to take a 12-2 lead at the break.
Flick scored the Falcons’ lone goal of the third period, getting an assist from John DeBonis (So., Sayville, N.Y.), but Hobart was able to extend its lead to 15-3 with just one period remaining.
Air Force outscored the Statesmen in the final period, with sophomore Adam Paranka (Denver, Colo.) registering an unassisted goal and senior Jimmy Curran (North Brunswick, N.J.) tallying a pair of scores. However, Hobart closed out the game with a score with 1:47 remaining to take the 17-6 victory.
Flick led the Air Force offense with two goals and an assist, while Curran (two goals) and Paranka (one goal, one assist) added two points each. Meanwhile, Sam Miller had a game-high six points, registering four goals and two assists for the Statesmen.
