Foster named CHA Player of the Week
U.S.A.F. ACADEMY, Colo. -- Sophomore goalie Peter Foster was named the College Hockey America Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Bank of America/Rensselaer Holiday Hockey Tournament, Nov. 26-27.
Foster's third award of the season comes after he led his team to the RPI tournament title by stopping 64 of 66 shots, including 32 in the championship game. Friday, the Falcons won their second consecutive overtime game, defeating Sacred Heart, 3-2, in the tournament semifinals. In that game, 19 of the 34 shots he faced came on the power play but he stopped 18 to allow Air Force to win the game after 73 minutes of play.
Saturday, Foster posted his national-best fourth shutout of the season by turning aside all 32 Rensselaer shots, including 14 in the final period to preserve the Falcons one-goal lead. For his efforts, Foster was named to the all-tournament team and earned the events' most valuable player award.
The sophomore from Canton, Mich., leads the CHA in both goals-against average (2.05), saves percentage (92.2) and minutes played (643) in all games. He ranks 13th in the nation in GAA and 18th in saves percentage.
Air Force (6-4-2 overall and 2-2 in the CHA) has won four straight games, all on the road. The Falcons host CHA rival Wayne State in a two-game series, Friday-Saturday, Dec. 3-4, at the Cadet Ice Arena. The faceoff is at 7:05 p.m. each night.
