U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force senior Jonathan Kopacka was named the Travel Team USA Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, for games played through Nov. 26.
Kopacka, from Lapeer, Mich., had three points (2-1-3) to help lead Air Force to a win and a tie on the road at Sacred Heart, Nov. 25.26. His two goals and +3 were the best of any Atlantic Hockey defenseman this past week. He had one goal and one assist in game one and then scored a short-handed goal in game two. It was Air Force’s first short-handed goal of the season. Trailing 2-0 early in the second period, he scored on a 2-on-1 short-handed rush. His goal, on a highlight-reel assist from Jordan Himley, started a run of five unanswered goals by the Falcons. He also blocked four shots in the series.
The weekly conference honor is the first of Kopacka’s career. He is the fourth Falcon to earn an AHC weekly honor this season, joining Matt Koch, AHC Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 11); Jake Levin, AHC Rookie of the Week (Nov. 14) and Alex Mehnert, AHC Rookie of the Week (Nov. 21)
Air Force (7-6-3 overall and 3-5-2 AHC) hosts a two-game conference series with the Niagara Purple Eagles, Friday-Saturday, Dec. 1-2, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
