Sacred Heart scores two late for 3-2 overtime win over Air Force
Jordan Minello scored at 2:31 of overtime to lift Sacred Heart to a 3-2 win over No. 17 Air Force in an Atlantic Hockey Conference game Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Academy’s Cadet Ice Arena. It was the final regular-season game for both teams.

This Week
Air Force (6-6-2, 2-5-1 AHC)  travels to Bridgeport, Conn., for a two-game Atlantic Hockey series with the  Sacred Heart Pioneers (3-8-1, 1-5-1 AHC), Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 25-26. Saturday's faceoff is at 5:05 pm while Sunday's game starts at 12:35 pm.

Both games will be broadcast on Xtra Sports 1300 and will be available online at www.GoAirForceFalcons.com.  The game is also available on TuneIn. Jay Ritchie will call the play-by-play while Dave Toller will provide color analysis. Pregame show begins 30 minutes before faceoff each day.

Air Force splits its series with RIT last weekend ... Freshman defenseman Alex Mehnert was named the AHC Rookie of the Week with three assists in the RIT series ... Matt Serratore leads the team with five goals and is tied for third with eight points ... Evan Giesler (2-7-9) and Jordan Himley (4-5-9) are tied for the team lead with nine points ... Matt Koch is the top scoring defenseman with eight points (3-5-8) ... Six players have scored between seven and nine points this season ... Phil Boje is sixth in the nation with 32 blocked shots ... Six different players have scored Air Force's nine power-play goals (Baskin has three) ... The attendance of 3,326 in the first game against Army is the second highest in school history (3,535 in 2008) ... Air Force has won four of the last five against Sacred Heart.

Scouting the Pioneers
Sacred Heart is 3-8-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the AHC for 10th place. SHU and Army West Point skated to a 5-5 overtime tie on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Webster Bank Arena. The Pioneers are 1-6-1 in their last eight games. The only win in the last eight was a home victory over Canisius, Nov. 4. Early in the season, SHU defeated fifth-ranked Notre Dame, 6-4, in South Bend. Freshman forward Mar Johnstone leads the team with 12 points. Sophomore forward Vito Bavaro leads the team with seven goals and has 11 points. Junior Brett Magnus and senior Nathan Perry have split time in goal. Magnus has played nine games and has a 4.19 GAA and a .881 saves percentage. Perry has played six games and has a 4.17 GAA and a .882 saves percentage.

Series vs. Sacred Heart
Air Force and Sacred Heart have played 39 times and the Falcons hold a 25-9-5 lead in the series that began in 2000. Air Force has won four the last five in the series. The teams played four times last season. Air Force swept the series in Bridgeport in December by scores of 3-2 and 3-1. It was the first time the teams played at Webster Bank Arena. In the final regular season series last season, the teams split a series at the Academy. After a 5-0 Falcon win in game one, Air Force needed a win to clinch the AHC regular season title. Instead, Sacred Heart tied the game late in the third and won 3-2 in overtime.
In Atlantic Hockey games, Air Force has a 22-7-4 advantage in the series. In games played at Sacred Heart, Air Force is 8-5-3. The teams have played five games at neutral sites and the teams are 2-2-1. In games played in Colorado, Air Force has a 15-2-1  advantage.
