Thomas and Torf named AHA Rookies of the Week
Nov. 15, 2010
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force Academy freshmen Tony Thomas and Jason Torf were named the Atlantic Hockey Association Co-Rookies of the Week for their performances in games against Colorado College and third-ranked Yale. Thomas, a forward from South Lyon, Mich., had five points (2-3-5) in the two games last weekend. He had a career best two goals and added an assist against Colorado College on Friday. He then had two assists in the win over No. 3 Yale on Sunday. Thomas assisted on the game-tying goal by Jason Fabian and then tallied a helper on Stephen Carew's game-winner late in the third period. Torf, a goaltender from Hermosa Beach, Calif., earned his first career win against No. 3 Yale on Sunday. He posted a career-best 34 saves in the game and held the nation's top scoring team to three goals which was half of their average. Yale had not scored less than five in any game this season. In the second period, Torf made four saves on a Yale 5-on-3 when the Falcons trailed 2-0. After Paul Weisgarber scored short-handed to cut the Yale lead to 3-2, he made three big saves on the remainder of the Yale power play. Air Force, 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the AHA, travels to Buffalo, N.Y., for a pair of league games at Canisius on Nov. 19 and Niagara on Nov. 20. --30--
