Volkening named AHA Goalie of the Month

Sophomore tender among best in nation in saves percentage and goals-against average

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force goaltender Andrew Volkening was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Goalie of the Month for the month of October.

The sophomore from Genoa, Ill., led Air Force to a 3-1 record in the month, which ties as the second-best start since 1975-76 and ties as the best in school history against Division I teams. Volkening was named the AHA Goalie of the Week, Oct. 22, as he earned two wins and allowed just two goals in AFA's sweep of 14th-ranked Quinnipiac (4-1 and 3-1).

Volkening leads the AHA in goals against average (1.52) and saves percentage (.943). He ranks 11th in the nation in GAA and ninth in saves.

Air Force (3-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the AHA) hosts Mercyhurst, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 2-3, at 7:35 pm each night at Cadet Ice Arena.
