Ten Falcon hockey players earn AHA all-academic honors

USAFA, Colo. - Ten Air Force hockey players were named to the 2009 Atlantic Hockey Association all-academic team, as announced today by the AHA. The 10 selections are the second most in school history. A total of 135 student-athletes earned academic all-AHA honors, a new league record. Air Force's 10 selections are the most since 11 Falcons earned all-academic honors in the College Hockey America conference in 2005-06.

The 10 Falcons honored on the team include freshman goalie Stephen Caple, junior forward Matt Fairchild, senior defenseman Greg Flynn, senior forward Josh Frider, freshman defenseman Scott Mathis, senior forward Mike Phillipich, junior goalie Andrew Volkening, freshman forward Paul Weisgarber, freshman defenseman Mark Williams and sophomore defenseman Kevin Wright.

To qualify for the AHA all-academic team, an individual must post a 3.0 grade point average or higher in all of the academic periods during which his team was actively competing.
