U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force senior defenseman Tim Kirby was named to the AHCA/CCM Hockey All-America East second team as selected by the collegiate hockey coaches.
Kirby was the Atlantic Hockey Association Player of the Year, Defenseman of the Year and a first-team all-league and all-tournament team selection this season. He is tied for third in the nation in goals by a defenseman with 12 and is 19th in the nation in points by a defenseman with 28 (0.72 per game) (12-16-28). He was Air Force's top scoring defenseman and third overall on the team. The Austin, Minn., native scored in 22 of the 39 games, tied as the most on the team. Twelve of his 16 assists this season were first assists. Kirby led Atlantic Hockey in points by a defenseman in all games (0.72 per game). He played in every game in his career, breaking the Air Force Academy record with 155 consecutive games played. He ranks ninth in school history for points by a defenseman (26-62-88). His 26 career goals are the fifth most in school history among defensemen.
Kirby becomes the fourth player in school history, and the fourth in the last six years, to earn All-America honors. He joins Eric Ehn (2007), Greg Flynn (2009) and Jacques Lamoureux (2009) as All-Americans. He is just the third player in school history to be named to the coaches All-America team, joining Ehn and Lamoureux who were both second-team East selections.
The East All-America first team features Troy Grosenick (So., G, Union), Danny Biega (Jr., D, Harvard), Brian Dumoulin (Jr., D, Boston College), Spencer Abbott (Sr., F, Maine), Alex Killorn (Sr., F, Harvard), Austin Smith (Sr., F, Colgate). Joining Kirby on the East second team are Joe Cannata (Sr., G, Merrimack), Mat Bodie (So., D, Union), Barry Almeida (Sr., F, Boston College), Brian O'Neill (Sr,, F, Yale) and Jeremy Welsh (Jr., F, Union).
