U.S AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force juniors Adam McKenzie and Jason Torf earned Atlantic Hockey Association Travel Team USA weekly honors this week for their efforts in a leading Air Force to a sweep of 13th-ranked Niagara at the Cadet Ice Arena, March 1-2.
McKenzie, a defenseman from Petaluma, Calif., was named the Travel Team USA co-Player of the Week as he tallied a career-high five points in the Niagara series. McKenzie had career bests of three assists and four points in the 6-1 win over Niagara. He had the first assist on the game-winner and was a +3 in the series. McKenzie has been strong down the stretch by scoring at least one point in six of the last seven games. In the final seven league games, scored nine points (3-6-9). The weekly award is the first of McKenzie's career.
Torf, from Hermosa Beach, Calif., was named the Travel Team USA co-Goaltender of the Week as he posted a 1.59 GAA and a .923 saves percentage in the two games against Niagara. Niagara entered the series ranked ninth in the nation in scoring offense, but Torf held them to just three goals in two games. Torf had 17 saves in the first game and 19 in the second game. The weekly award is the second of the season for Torf and the 12th of his career.
Air Force, 17-11-7 overall and 15-7-5 in the AHA, is the No. 2 seed in the AHA Tournament and has a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The Falcons will host an AHA quarterfinal series, March 15-17, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
