USAFA, Colo. - Air Force senior goaltender Andrew Volkening was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Goalie of the Week as he helped lead Air Force to a sweep at Bentley, Jan. 15-16.
Volkening allowed just three goals to lead Air Force to two wins and move into sole possession of first place in the AHA. The senior from Genoa, Ill., had a saves percentage of .944 and a goals-against average of 1.50. After allowing three goals in the 6-3 win on Jan. 15, he blanked Bentley in a 3-0 win on Jan. 16. The shutout was his third of the season and the 14th of his career, a school record. In AHA games this season, he ranks second in goals-against average with a 1.94 and third in saves percentage at .922.
The award is the fifth weekly honor of the season for Air Force. It is Volkening's third of the season and the 12th of his career.
Air Force, 11-8-5 overall and 11-4-5 in the AHA host Holy Cross, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 22-23 at 7:05 p.m. each night at Cadet Ice Arena.
