Air Force hosts Bentley, Jan. 13-14

    This Week Air Force (10-6-3, 8-3-2 AHA) hosts the Bentley Falcons (6-9-4, 6-3-3 AHA) for a two-game Atlantic Hockey series, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 13-14, at 7:05 pm each night at Cadet Ice Arena. AFA is in second place in the AHA, two points behind Mercyhurst. Bentley is in fifth place.

    Radio/Internet/Television All games will be broadcast in Colorado Springs on The Sports Animal AM 1300 and on the internet at www.GoAirForceFalcons.com. Pregame show begins 30 minutes before faceoff each day. Jay Ritchie will call the play-by-play while Dave Toller will be the color analyst.     Down to the Wire This season, Air Force has played 19 games and 14 of them were essentially one-goal games (two were two-goal final deficits including empty-netters) or ended in a tie. AFA is 6-5-3 in those games. Four of the five games that were decided by more than a goal (not including empty-netters) were Air Force wins (7-2 over Alabama-Huntsville, 3-1 over UConn and 8-3 and 7-3 over AIC). The other was a 7-1 loss to No. 15 Denver. Going back to last season, nearly 70 percent (38 of the last 56 games) of the games have been decided by one goal or ended in a tie and AFA is 18-11-9 in those games. Of those 11 losses, three have come against teams ranked in the top 12 in the nation at the time of the game and nine of the 10 have come on the road.

    Scouting the Bentley Falcons Bentley is 6-9-4 overall and 6-3-3 in the AHA and in fifth place Bentley took three points from Robert Morris at home last weekend with a 2-1 win and a 2-2 tie Bentley is 4-7-1 on the road with wins at Sacred Heart, Canisius, Army and UConn Bentley is 2-1-2 in the last five games Bentley has gotten points in every AHA series this season Sophomore Brett Gensler leads the team with five goals, 13 assists and 18 points. Sophomore Brenden Komm leads the team with a 2.51 GAA and a is 10th in the nation with a .926 saves percentage

     

     

    Scoring by Committee Fourteen different Falcons have scored Air Force's 62 goals this season Kyle De Laurell leads the team with 13 goals and 26 points Seven Falcons have scored 12 or more points this season, led by De Laurell's 26 points.

    No Place Like Home Air Force is 6-0-1 at home in league play and is 6-1-1 overall. The only loss was to 15h-ranked Denver. Since joining Atlantic Hockey for the 2006-07 season, AFA has won 72 percent of its home games (56-17-14) There are two teams in the league that have a winning record against AFA at the Academy. Canisius is 3-2-4 vs. AFA while Mercyhurst is 5-1-1.

    Series vs. Bentley Air Force and Bentley have played 30 times and AFA holds a 21-6-3 lead in the series that began in 1998 The teams have played 21 times as AHA rivals and Air Force holds a 15-4-2 lead in the series. AFA has won five straight in the series and is unbeaten in the last seven. AFA swept Bentley on the road last season. Bentley's last win was a 4-1 victory in Waltham, Mass., in 2009 AFA is 13-1-2 vs. Bentley since 2007
