Falcons sweep Lakers with come-from-behind 4-2 win
Air Force scored three power-play goals in the third period for come from behind for a 4-2 win over Mercyhurst in an Atlantic Hockey Conference game, Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Mercyhurst Ice Center in Erie, Pa. Air Force extended its winning streak to six games, the longest since the 2010-11 season. Air Force, 13-6-3 overall and 10-3-1 AHC, swept Mercyhurst and moved into sole possession of first place in the league.

This Week
Air Force (8-9-3, 3-7-2 AHC) hosts a two-game league series with the Merchyhurst Lakers (7-9-2, 4-6-2 AHC), Friday-Saturday, Jan. 5-6, at the Cadet Ice Arena. Friday’s game starts at 7:05 pm MT while Saturday’s game starts at 5:05 pm.

Friday’s game will be broadcast on Xtra Sports 1300 while Saturday’s game will be on AM 740 KVOR. Both games will be available online at www.GoAirForceFalcons.com. The game is also available on TuneIn. Jay Ritchie will call the play-by-play while Dave Toller will provide color analysis. Pregame show begins 30 minutes before faceoff each day.

Series vs. Mercyhurst
Air Force leads the all-time series with Mercyhurst, 17-13-3. The Falcons have won two straight in the series and six of the last eight. Air Force swept the Lakers last season in Erie, Pa., 3-1 and 4-2. Mercyhurst hasn’t played at Cadet Ice Arena since 2014. Mercyhurst has had more success at Cadet Ice Arena than any other AHC team, holding an 8-5-1 advantage in the series in Colorado.

Scouting the Lakers
Mercyhurst is 7-9-2 overall and 4-6-2 in the AHC and in ninth place with 10 points, just one spot ahead of Air Force. The Lakers have been off since getting swept by Robert Morris, Dec. 16-17. Mercyhurst was scheduled to host RIT, Dec. 29-30, but the series was postponed due to the snow in Erie. Senior Jonathan Charbonneau, junior Taylor Best and junior Derek Barach are tied for the team lead with 16 points. Senior Brandon Wildung has started 16 of the 18 games in net and has a .907 saves percentage and a 3.21 GAA.

Senior Jordan Himley leads the team with 14 points this season ... Himley has at least one point in seven of the last nine games ... Senior Erik Baskin leads the team with nine goals, including his first career hat trick in the win over Colorado College, Dec. 29 ... Since returning from injury, Tyler Ledford has a point in three of his four games ... After an assist in each game against Niagara, Ledford had a career best five points (1-4-5) in the win over Colorado College ... Phil Boje blocked 10 shots in the CC/DU weekend and leads the nation with 53 blocked shots ... He tied his career high with two assists in the win over Colorado College ... The senior class tallied 13 of the team’s 15 points (including all six goals) in the win over Colorado College.
