Air Force Gymnastics Set to Host Blue-Silver Intrasquad Meet
Dec. 1, 2010
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force men's and women's gymnastics teams will host its third-annual Blue-Silver Intrasquad Gymnastics Meet on Saturday, Dec. 4. The meet, which will feature members of both the men's and women's teams competing together at the Academy's Cadet West Gym, is slated to begin at 2 p.m., and admission is free. The defending USAG national champion men's team is led by sixth-year coach Kip Simons and senior captain Nash Mills. The squad features a strong returning lineup that includes two USAG national champions in Mills (parallel bars, all-around) and Devin Menefee (vault), two additional USAG All-Americans and five gymnasts that competed at last year's NCAA Championships. The men, who added six talented freshmen to the roster, return a majority of the squad that earned the program's first-ever USAG title and set seven team records last year. The women's program is guided by fifth-year head coach Doug Day and senior captain Brittany Dutton, a 2008 USAG All-American. The Falcons will have a much different look this season, as the roster features nine impressive freshmen. However, the squad is backed by five talented returners, including a pair of all-conference gymnastics in Dutton and classmate Lisa Wong. The men's team officially opens the 2011 season at home on Saturday, Jan. 15, when they host the annual Rocky Mountain Open at 6 p.m. The women begin competition on Saturday, Jan. 8, when they travel to Denver, Colo., for a triangular meet with Denver and Georgia. Both teams return to the Academy on Saturday, Jan. 22, when they host Air Force's first-ever double-dual meet, featuring Army (men) and Seattle-Pacific (women).
