USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Highlighted by four competitions at the Academy's Cadet West Gym, including the 33rd-annual Rocky Mountain Open, the Air Force men's gymnastics team and head coach Kip Simons announced the squad's schedule for the upcoming season this afternoon.
The Falcons open the 2013 campaign with the Rocky Mountain Open on Saturday, Jan. 11. Air Force will travel to Oklahoma (Saturday, Jan. 18) and Nebraska (Saturday, Jan. 25), before heading to Houston, Texas, for the annual All-Academy Championships with Army and Navy on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Following a home meet with Minnesota on Saturday, Feb. 8, Air Force will travel to the East Coast for a rematch at Army on Friday, Feb. 14, and a dual meet at Temple on Saturday, Feb. 15. Select Falcons will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for the prestigious Winter Cup Challenge on Feb. 20-22, while the full squad returns to action on Friday, Feb. 28, for the first of two home meets with Illinois-Chicago. Air Force will also host the Flames on Sunday, March 2, before closing out the regular season with a quad meet at Nebraska on Saturday, March 15 (also featuring Iowa and Minnesota).
Air Force, which has won the last four USAG national team titles, will open the championship season on Friday, March 21, when it travels to Annapolis, Md., for the two-day USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships. The Falcons will return to Norman, Okla., for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Saturday, March 29, before closing out the season at the NCAA Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., on April 10-12.
The Falcons' preseason Blue/Silver Scrimmage will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m.
