USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's gymnastics head coach Kip Simons announced the addition of four gymnasts to his roster for the upcoming season. The newcomers, who marched out to Jack's Valley earlier this week to begin the second half of Basic Cadet Training as members of the Academy's Class of 2017, will join a veteran team that has captured the last four USAG Championships.
"Each year, the amount of raw talent coming through our front door strongly increases and this year is no exception," Simons said. "I expect 8-12 routines to be added to our lineup with the ability these four young men bring to the table."
MEN'S GYMNASTICS CLASS OF 2017
Chase Cannon - Louisville, Tenn. | Premier Gymnastics
Aaron Nubine - Edmond, Okla. | Oklahoma Gold Gymnastics
Christopher Stephenson - Fishers, Ind. | Deveau's Gymnastics
Timothy Wang - Riverside, Calif. | Southcoast Gymnastics
"We graduated three outstanding seniors who contributed five solid routines toward the team score," Simons continued. "Alex (Jessop), Tory (Brown) and James (Okamoto) will be greatly missed, but with this talented freshmen class, I fully expect the program to continue its rise toward the top of the NCAA ranks."
The four Falcons, along with freshman walk-on Bradford Ruppert, entered the Academy on June 27 for Basic Cadet Training. They spent the first three weeks in the Cadet Area, focusing on military orientation, including basic military skills and responsibilities, while improving physical conditioning and understanding teamwork through competitive sports. During the second phase, which began on July 22 in Jack's Valley, the Basics will focus on field training activities, while developing their mental and physical confidence.
Classes begin for cadets on Thursday, August 8.
