Eight Falcons Named As Academic All-MPSF Scolar-Athletes

U.S.A.F.A., Colo.- Eight Falcons were announced as Academic All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation scholar-athletes for the 2003 MPSF men's and women's gymnastics seasons. For the men, senior team captain Aaron Jackson (3.47), junior Matthew Joseph (3.25) and sophomores Patrick McAndrew (3.82) and Kent Reichle (3.30) were all nominated. For the women, senior team captain Allison Todd (3.18), juniors Laura Frank (3.19) and Tammy Ritchey (3.13) and sophomore Diane Godar (3.28) were all nominated. The student-athletes were selected on the basis of the following criteria:
1. 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average. 2. Student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received and must be at least a sophomore academically. 3. Student-athlete must have competed in fifty percent or more of the institution's competition in the student-athlete's respective sport.
Both the men's and women's Air Force gymnastics teams will compete in the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships this weekend at Texas Woman's University in Denton. The women's competition begins Thursday, April 17 with the team semifinals at 4 p.m. The men's competition begins Friday with the men's team finals at 1 p.m. The women's individual event finals are at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19, followed by the men's individual event finals at 5.
Women's team captain Allison Todd competed in the NCAA North Central Regionals last weekend at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Todd finished 12th in the individual all-around and had qualified fifth as an individual all-around competitor and was an individual event alternate on balance beam.
Junior Jeff Andersen and men's team captain Aaron Jackson both advanced to the second round of the NCAA Gymnastics Championships in Philadelphia. Andersen moved forward on floor exercise (second) and nearly advanced in the all-around (fourth). Jackson advanced on vault (third). Neither advanced to the finals but both had a very good competition, according to Air Force director of gymnastics Lou Burkel.
