WOODLAND, Calif. - Air Force sophomore Mac Ritchie was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Gymnast of the Week, the conference office announced this morning (Apr. 3). It is the first such award of Ritchie's career.
Ritchie, now ranked 25th in the national standings on the high bar, won the individual USAG high bar title with an Academy record-matching score of 14.900 on Saturday, March 31, one day after helping Air Force to its third-straight USA Gymnastics National Collegiate Championship title.
On Saturday, Ritchie won his first USAG title on the high bar, defeating the field by a 0.650 margin and matching the program standard of 14.900. He became the first USAG champion on that event since 1999. His individual title came one day after he recorded a then-career-best mark of 14.650 to win the qualifying round by a 0.450 margin. He paced the Falcons to five of the top-six scores on that event, as Air Force recorded the fourth-best event score in program history (56.950) and a season-high team score of 341.050 to win their third USAG team title.
Ritchie is the second Air Force gymnast to earn the league's weekly award, joining junior James Okamoto, who earned the honor on Feb. 21 and Feb. 28. Air Force returns to action on Saturday, April 7, when it hosts the MPSF Championships at 5 p.m.
