INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Air Force men's gymnastics team, ranked 10th in the national standings, was selected to compete at the 2014 NCAA National Qualifier in Ann Arbor, Mich., the men's gymnastics selection committee announced this afternoon (April 1). The invitation marks the fourth straight year that the Falcons have earned a spot as a team at the national meet.
Under the direction of ninth-year head coach Kip Simons, Air Force amassed a National Qualifying Score of 427.900 to rank ninth in the national standings.
The Falcons will open competition on Thursday, April 10, in the second qualifying session, which includes second-ranked Michigan, third-ranked Ohio State, sixth-ranked Penn State, seventh-ranked Minnesota and 11th-ranked Nebraska. Top-ranked Oklahoma, fourth-ranked Stanford, fifth-ranked Illinois, eighth-ranked Iowa, ninth-ranked California and 12th-ranked William & Mary will compete in the first session.
The national qualifier consists of two sessions on Thursday, April 10, at Crisler Center on the campus of the University of Michigan. The top three teams and top three all-around competitors not on one of the qualifying teams, plus the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-around competitor from each sessions will advance to the NCAA National Gymnastics Championships, which will take place on Friday, April 11 (team finals, 7 p.m.) and Saturday, April 12 (event finals, 7 p.m.).
