Men's Gymnastics Team Heads To Nebraska For MPSF Championships
March 27, 2003 The No. 11 Huskers will play host to the 11th annual Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships this Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Friday's events will begin at 7 p.m., and include the team and all-around competition, while Saturday is reserved for individual even finals starting at 7 p.m. Five teams make up the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Traveling to Lincoln are No. 15 Air Force, No. 4 California, No. 1 Oklahoma, and No. 9 Stanford. Oklahoma claimed the team title at last year's conference championships (218.5750), hosted by the Air Force Academy in Colorado. The MPSF was founded in 1992 and unites the Big West, Pacific-10, Mountain West, Western Athletic and West Coast Conferences and other selected universities in the western United States, to provide championship competition for Division I intercollegiate sports in a conference setting. All five teams enter the meet ranked among the nation's top 20. Of the individuals competing, 24 stand among the top of their league on various events. The Falcons finished their regular season in a dual meet at Nebraska, March 14. Air Force fell to the Huskers, 213.575-201.400. The Falcons also had one of their own, senior team captain Aaron Jackson, named as one of eight finalists for the Nissen-Emery Award, which is given to the outstanding NCAA senior gymnast. The winner of the award will be announced prior to the 2003 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia, Pa.
