Falcons Finish Fifth at MPSF Championships
NORMAN, Okla. -- The Air Force men's gymnastics team posted its second-highest score of the season to finish fifth at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Friday, March 25, in Norman, Okla.
The Falcons' posted a team total of 197.200 to place fifth. Oklahoma earned its 14th conference title with a team total of 225.650 -- the second-best score by any team in NCAA history -- while California placed second with 219.725. Stanford (217.925) and Nebraska (215.375) rounded out the competition in third and fourth place, respectively.
Air Force, which opened the night on the parallel bars, was led by sophomore Ryan Stromstad (Corona, Calif.), who tallied an 8.400 on the event - a score that matched his career best. Junior Eric Peele (Bethel, N.C.) as close behind with a mark of 8.350.
Peele led the team on the next rotation, posting a career-best 8.500 on the high bar, while Stromstad was second with another career-high score of 8.400.
Stromstad tied with freshman Nathan Glandon (Abilene, Texas) for the team lead on the floor exercise, as each posted a score of 8.750. Glandon's classmate, Tyler Sickles (Mesa, Ariz.), led the Falcons on the pommel horse with a 7.900, while sophomore Kurt Antonio (Rio Rancho, N.M.) posted an 8.000 on the still rings to led the team on that event.
Peele and senior co-captain Kent Reichle (Cambridge, Minn.) tied for the team lead on the vault, with matching scores of 8.750. Stromstad was close behind with an 8.700.
