USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force sophomore Nick Gaudlip continues to receive accolades for his impressive performance last weekend, as he earned the College Gymnastics Association National Gymnast of the Week (Collegiate Division) award on Wednesday, March 20.
Gaudlip, who was named the Air Force Athlete of the Week on Monday and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, shared the weekly CGA honor with Penn State's Felix Aronoivich, who was chosen as the Division I winner. It is the second time this month that an Air Force gymnast has swept the weekly awards, as senior Tory Brown completed the trifecta on March 4-6.
The Colorado Springs native improved his scores on all four of his events, captured four event titles and set a new Academy record on the high bar, while helping the (then) 11th-ranked Falcons to a 2-0 weekend against No. 13 Temple (425.450-398.500) and No. 19 Washington (431.250-343.500).
Gaudlip collected first-place finishes on the pommel horse (career-best 14.000), parallel bars (career-best 14.750) and high bar (14.150, tied) against the Owls on March 14 and used an Academy-record performance of 15.050 to win the high bar title outright against the Huskies on March 16. In addition, he finished second on the floor exercise during both meets (14.700, career-best 15.150), while helping the Falcons to team event records on the floor exercise and high bar against Washington.
The CGA Gymnast of the Week awards are selected by a panel of 17 active college coaches, 35 CGA Honorary Lifetime Members and coaches of seven major club programs.
