Underclassmen Lead Falcons at Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Air Force men's gymnastics team closed out the regular season on Sunday (March 19) with a 212.150-184.775 loss to Nebraska at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.
Air Force's best finish of the afternoon was a fifth-place score of 7.900 on the still rings by freshman Andrew Terrell. Junior Kurt Antonio placed sixth on the event with a score of 7.750.
Sophomores Brian Boardman and Tyler Sickles each picked up sixth-place marks as the top-scoring Falcon on the pommel horse and high bar, respectively. Boardman scored a 7.350 on the pommel horse, while Sickles scored an 8.550 on the high bar.
With the second-best scores of the afternoon on those two events, Antonio (7.100 -- pommel horse) and sophomore Jon Roberts (7.850 -- high bar) each picked up eighth-place scores.
Boardman also led the Falcons on the floor exercise and vault, scoring an 8.500 and an 8.675, respectively. Antonio picked up a ninth-place score on the floor with an 8.050, while classmate Edwin Berry garnered an 8.450 on the vault to finish eighth.
Sickles also picked up the Falcons' best score on the parallel bars, with a 7.650 to finish seventh. Senior Brian Moore placed eighth on the event with a score of 7.600.
The two programs meet once more next Saturday (March 25) as Air Force hosts the 2006 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
