Air Force Heads to the Windy City for a Pair of Meets with UIC
The No. 17 Air Force men's gymnastics team concludes the regular season with a pair of meets at Illinois-Chicago. The first contest is slated for 7 p.m., on Friday, March 18, while they close out the weekend on Sunday (March 20) with a 2 p.m. competition in Chicago, Ill
In their last outing, the Falcons dropped a 215.450-195.350 decision to eighth-ranked Nebraska on March 13. With a floor score of 35.000, Air Force set a new season-high total on that event.
A different member of the Falcons' squad was the top finisher on every event. Ryan Stromstad led the Falcons with a 9.050 on the floor exercise, while Brian Boardman notched an 8.250 on the pommel horse. Kurt Antonio was the top finisher on the still rings, scoring an 8.100, while Kent Reichle topped the team on the vault with a score of 8.900. Eric Peele topped the team on the parallel bars, taking sixth with a score of 8.600 and scoring an 8.250 on the high bar, Edwin Berry finished second on the apparatus with a career-high score.
Following their trip to the Windy City, Air Force will head to Norman, Okla., for the 2005 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on March 25-26. The meet, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, will feature some of the nation's top teams, including No. 6 Cal, No. 8 Stanford and No. 9 Nebraska, in addition to No. 2 OU and No. 17 Air Force.
