USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force senior gymnast Tory Brown continues to receive accolades for his performance last weekend, earning the College Gymnastics Association National Gymnast of the Week (Collegiate Division) award today (March 6).
Brown, who was named the Air Force Athlete of the Week on Monday and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, shared the weekly CGA honor with Stanford's Eddie Penev, who was chosen as the Division I winner. It is the first such honor for the Falcons' team captain.
The senior improved his personal-best scores in every event and captured five total titles to lead the 11th-ranked Falcons to back-to-back victories over No. 16 Illinois-Chicago this past weekend in Chicago. In addition, he moved up to 10th on the vault in the GymInfo National Rankings with a Three-Score Average of 14.967.
Brown collected first-place finishes on the floor exercise (career-best 15.000), vault (14.900) and parallel bars (career-best 14.750) to lead the Falcons to a 421.850-405.550 win over the Flames on March 1. He captured another pair of event titles and equaled the Academy record on the vault during Air Force's 420.050-411.750 victory over UIC on March 3, winning the vault with an Academy-record matching mark of 15.050 and tallying a career-high 14.500 to take first on the high bar.
The CGA Gymnast of the Week awards are selected by a panel of 17 active college coaches, 35 CGA Honorary Lifetime Members and coaches of seven major club programs.
