Nash Mills Earns Weekly National Honor
March 3, 2010
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force junior Nash Mills was named the national USAG Collegiate Division Gymnast of the Week for the week ending Feb. 28, the College Gymnastics Association announced today (March 3). It is the first such honor for Mills, who shared the honor with Oklahoma's Steven Legendre, who was the NCAA Division winner. Mills is coming off of a stellar weekend in the Falcons' 335.900-333.600 win over Arizona State, where he collected three first-place scores and matched the Academy record on the parallel bars. He bettered the rest of the field by one whole point on the parallel bars, winning the event with an Academy record-tying score of 14.900. He also used a season-best score of 13.800 to tie for first on the high bar, while claiming the all-around title outright with a personal-best tally of 86.300. His all-around total is a personal improvement by one point and the eighth-best total in Academy history. Mills finished within the top four of every event, recording personal best scores on the pommel horse (13.550) and still rings (14.800). Mills and his Air Force teammates return to the Academy this weekend for a pair of competitions. The Falcons will host second-ranked Stanford and No. 12 Illinois-Chicago on Friday, March 5, before welcoming UIC back to Cadet West Gym on Sunday, March 7.
