Men's Gymnastics Head Coach Lou Burkel on UCSB Home Meet

The weekend started poorly and ended well. Our meet on Friday started at 8:30 p.m. because UC Santa Barbara was delayed several times and arrived late. They were very tired from traveling and we were tired from waiting and not knowing what was going to happen. The judges were kind enough to hang around until UCSB arrived and then we got the meet started and warmed up along the way.

    We didn't have a great performance by any means, but managed to win, 198.00 - 194.75. All Around: Second-James Hayes, Foutth-Aaron Jackson. Floor: Second-Jackson, Third-Hayes & Justin Jones. P Horse: First-Levi Torkelson, Second-Hayes. Rings: First-Stephen Sistare, Second-Andrew Fisher, Third-Jackson. Vault: Fourth-Fisher. PBars: First-Matt Kenkel, Second-Levi Torkelson, Third-Jackson. High Bar: Second-Hayes, Third-Jackson & Jones.

Sunday was a much better meet and both teams performed better. We had our best team effort of the year, hitting 27 of 36 sets and winning by a score of 201.25 - 197.35. All Around: First-Aaron Jackson, Third-James Hayes. Floor: First-Jackson, Second-Stephen Sistare, Third-Hayes. P Horse: First-Levi Torkelson, Third-Hayes. Rings: First-Sistare, Third-Andrew Fisher & Matt Kenkel. Vault: Second-Fisher, Third-Jackson, Fourth-Kenkel. P Bars: Second-Torkelson, Third-Fisher, Fourth-Jackson. High Bar: First-Torkelson, Second-Fisher & Jackson, Fourth-Hayes.

This week we travel to Lincoln to meet perennial power University of Nebraska. We leave via bus at 6 a.m. Saturday and will have a light workout when we arrive. The meet is at 2 p.m. in the Devaney Center. We will depart immediately after the meet (about 5 p.m.) to get back as soon as possible. Hopefully we have turned the corner and will have another excellent meet. Hope to see you there!
