USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force junior James Okamoto claimed a pair of weekly performance awards after leading the 11th-ranked men's gymnastics team to its second straight All-Academy Championship title. Okamoto was named Gymnast of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the College Gymnastics Association.
The junior claimed two event titles, winning the pommel horse and high bar at the All-Academy Championships. He scored a career-best matching tally of 14.600 to take first on the pommel horse and won the high bar with a score of 14.000 - a mark just 0.100 off of his career high.
It is the first such award for Okamoto, who shared the MPSF honor with Cal's Dennis Mannhart and the CGA honor with Navy's Andrew Faulk.
