Falcons Head Out for Three Meets
COMING UP: The Air Force men's gymnastics team returns to California for the annual Pacific Coast Classic on Saturday, Feb. 25, Oakland. The Falcons will be competing against Arizona State (the nation's top-ranked club team), Temple, Washington, Waseda University (from Tokyo, Japan), several Level 10 gymnasts and Wales National Team member David Eaton. The meet is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. (PST) in the Oakland Convention Center.
OTHER HAPPENINGS FROM THE COAST: Several of the nation's top teams will also be competing in Oakland, Calif., as a part of the Pacific Coast Collegiate Classic. Oklahoma, Cal-Berkeley, Michigan, Iowa, Stanford, Minnesota and William and Mary will compete in the other meet, which is slated for 7:30 p.m. (PST). STAYING OUT LATE: The Falcons will reamin in California (Brentwood) for the Peter Vidmar Invitational on Thursday, March 2, before heading to Tempe, Ariz., for the Southwest Cup on Sunday, March 5.
MORE MOORE: During the weekend dual meet at Army, senior Brian Moore opened the weekend with a second-place finish in the all-around, scoring a 44.250 on Friday night. Scoring a season-best 45.100 in the combined events, Moore won the all-around on Sunday afternoon, backed by a team-leading 8.300 on the parallel bars.
SEASON-BESTS: Every gymnast that competed at Army posted at least one season- or career-best score. The squad was led by senior Brian Moore, who improved his season bests in every event and the all-around over the weekend. Junior Kurt Antonio set season-high marks in five of the six individual events, as well as the all-around, while sophomore Brian Boardman each tallied year-best marks in four events. Freshman Josiah Loeser improved his collegiate-best scores on all of the events that he competed in.
CALIFORNIA DREAMING: This past weekend's Triad marked the first of three straight meets in California for the Falcons. Air Force will also compete at the prestigious Pacific Coast Classic in Oakland on Saturday, Feb. 25, and the Peter Vidmar Invitational on Thursday, March 2.
MPSF MEET: The Air Force Academy will host the 2006 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, March 25. The meet will follow the MPSF Women's Gymnastics Championships, which is slated for Friday, March 24. Both events will take place in the Cadet West Gym and are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., on both nights.
ON THE HORIZON: The Falcons have a busy week ahead of them, as they remain away from the Academy for a pair of meets. Air Force will travel to Brentwood, Calif., for the Peter Vidmar Invitational on Thursday, March 2, before heading to Tempe, Ariz., for the Southwest Cup on Sunday, March 5.
