Air Force Heads to All-Academy Championships

    The No. 14 Air Force men's gymnastics team travels to Atlanta, Ga., this Saturday (Feb. 16) for the annual All-Academy Championships. The Falcons will face 13th-ranked Army and 15th-ranked Navy at the Georgia State Sports Arena in a 6 p.m. (EST) showdown between the three service academy programs.

    MEET INFORMATION
    The meet will be held during the 30th Peachtree Invitational at the Sports Arena (125 Decatur Street, Atlanta) on the campus of Georgia State University. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for children aged 7-12 (children 6 and under are free).

    HAPPY HOMECOMING
    Three Falcons hail from the state of Georgia. The Owen brothers (Nick and Zach) are originally from Grayson, while Gared Chapman grew up in Americus.

    A QUICK LOOK AT THE FIELD
    The three service academies are ranked 13-15 in the GymInfo National Rankings. Army leads the field with a 409.450 three-score average, followed by Air Force (408.050) and Navy (398.467). Air Force (Tory Brown, vault; Tyler Huebner, still rings) and Army (Garrek Hojan-Clark, pommel horse; Jesse Glenn, all-around) both have gymnasts ranked among the nation's top 20.

    LOOKING BACK AT THE 2012 ALL-ACADEMY CHAMPIONSHIPS
    Claiming four of the six event titles, Air Force earned its second straight team title last year in San Jose, Calif. Under the old scoring system, the Falcons scored a 327.800 to defeat Navy (325.650) and Army (317.600). James Okamato won the pommel horse and high bar, while Josh Ramos and Devin Menefee won the floor exercise and still rings, respectively.

    YOU LOOK FAMILIAR
    Air Force and Army faced each other in mid-January, with the Falcons claiming a 414.200-408.100 victory over the Black Knights. Three Falcons - Tory Brown, vault; Nick Gaudlip, floor exercise; Josh Ramos, parallel bars - accounted for event titles during the dual meet at the Academy.

    IN THE RANKINGS
    Using the three-score average, which went into effect for this week's rankings, Air Force is ranked 14th in the GymInfo National Rankings with a mark of 408.050. As a team, the Falcons are ranked among the nation's top 10 on the vault (ninth, 71.833) and still rings (10th, 69.083). Individually, Tory Brown is tied for 12th on the vault with a three-score average of 14.700, while Tyler Huebner is tied for 20th on the still rings with a mark of 14.617.

    CHAPMAN WRAPS UP WINTER CUP ACTION
    Gared Chapman made his first appearance at the prestigious Winter Cup Challenge over the Feb. 7-9 weekend, tallying a 13.900 on the vault and a 12.100 on the still rings during the preliminary session of competition.

    WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
    The Falcons will travel to Norman, Okla., on Saturday, Feb. 23, for a dual meet with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Oklahoma, which is currently ranked second in the GymInfo National Rankings. Action is slated to begin at 7 p.m. (CST).
