Greg Stine Earns MPSF Weekly Honor
Feb. 5, 2008
WOODLAND, Calif. - After collecting nine individual and two all-around titles over the weekend, senior Greg Stine (Houston, Texas) was named Gymnast of the Week, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced this morning (Feb. 5). Stine was instrumental in the Falcons' victories over Army and Springfield, as well increasing the team's total by nearly 15 points during the Feb. 1-3 weekend. Stine claimed five first-place finishes in the Falcons' thrilling 331.350-331.300 victory over Army on Feb. 1. He scored a record 15.000 to win the floor and shattered the Academy record on the still rings with a winning score of 15.450. He also equaled the program standard of 15.400 to win the vault, while taking first on the parallel bars with another record performance of 14.750 and increasing his own all-around standard to win the event with a score of 87.150. Air Force's victory over Army snapped the Black Knights' 15-meet winning streak over the Falcons that dated back to the 1999-2000 season. Two days later, Stine won the all-around, as well as five of six individual events, as the Falcons defeated Springfield. Stine upped the record on the still rings with a winning score of 15.600, while increasing the high bar standard by nearly a point to take first on the high bar (14.650). He also won the floor exercise (14.350), vault (15.350), parallel bars (14.500) and all-around (87.050). Stine paced the Falcons to three top finishes on the vault, as well as three of the top four scores on the parallel bars and still rings. The Falcons are off from competition this weekend, before facing off with Army and Navy and the All-Academy Championships.
