WOODLAND, Calif. - After leading the Air Force men's gymnastics team to a dominating win over Army and Navy at the All-Academy Championships in Houston last week, freshman Tim Wang was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The recipient of the All-Academy Championships' first Iron Cross Award, Wang won the floor exercise (career-best 14.850), pommel horse (career-best 14.800), vault (career-best 15.250), high bar (14.250) and all-around (career-best 87.200).In addition to accounting for five winning marks during the meet, Wang also impacted the Academy's top-10 lists in the pommel horse (second all-time), vault (second all-time) and floor exercise (10th all-time), while his all-around score is a new program standard.
Wang's vault score of 15.200 was the top mark amongst all competitors from the afternoon session of the Houston National Invitational ... an elite field that included two 2012 Olympians, international gymnasts and athletes from USOTC.
The Falcons, ranked ninth in this week's GymInfo national standings, return to the Academy this Saturday, when they host sixth-ranked Minnesota at 5 p.m.
