Three Gymnasts Invited to Winter Cup Challenge

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Three members of the Air Force men's gymnastics team were invited to the prestigious Winter Cup Challenge later this month, USA Gymnastics announced this afternoon (Feb. 3). Junior Nick Gaudlip and freshman Tim Wang will compete at the annual event which determines the U.S. Men's National Team, while freshman Chris Stephenson was selected but will have to miss the meet due to injury.

    It is the fifth straight year that multiple Air Force gymnasts have been selected to compete at Winter Cup.

    The annual Winter Cup Challenge will be held Feb. 20-22 at the Riviera Hotel and Casino's Royale Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nev. Included in the competitive field are all six members of the 2013 U.S. World Championship team, two other members of the 2012 Olympic team and six additional members of the Senior National Team.

    Performances from this year's Winter Cup Challenge will help determine the 15 men that will comprise the U.S. Men's Senior National Team through the 2014 P&G Championships in August. The preliminary round of competition will take place during various sessions on Thursday, Feb. 20, while the top 42 gymnasts, according to the Men's Program Committee's points ranking system, will advance to the finals on Saturday, Feb. 22.
