Air Force Celebrates 55 Years of Gymnastics
Jan. 26, 2011
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force gymnastics program celebrated 55 years of competition this past Saturday (Jan. 22), as over 60 alumni from both the men's and women's programs came back to the Academy, some for the first time since their graduation. The fun-filled weekend included gatherings, tours, presentations with Academy leadership and, of course, an epic Air Force gymnastics event. "I don't think the weekend could have gone any better," men's head coach Kip Simons said. "I know it meant a lot to my guys to have the support of the alumni in the stands. These guys built the program over the years and we're carrying the torch to the next level." The current Air Force teams competed in a double-dual meet, treating the returning program members to two gymnastics meets running simultaneously at Cadet West Gymnasium. The men's program swept the event titles to defeat service academy rival Army, 330.000-307.500, while the women won their dual with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponent Seattle Pacific by a score of 191.475-190.425. "I can't wait to take the reunion to the next level five years from now," Simons said.
